ZSA Moonlander
ZSA Moonlander¶
This is my current keyboard: ZSA Moonlander: Next-gen Ergonomics. It is genuinely the best thing I have ever used at a PC and the possibilities for customizing it to my needs are impressive.
I use Gateron Browns, which are slightly shorter than Cherry switches. For keycaps I use the Blank Keycaps with OEM profile from the Moonlander Accessories. I would recommend them to everyone: printed caps quickly stop reflecting what you have actually programmed, and blank keycaps also force you to actually learn the layout. At the same time I switched to Colemak-Dh.
My current layout is available in their configurator software Oryx.
Note
If you are unsure whether you can still learn a new layout, let me tell you: you will be surprised how well your brain can switch between layouts as long as you only use each layout on a specific keyboard. If you only have Colemak active on the Moonlander, you will have no trouble typing on laptops or your old QWERTY keyboards. Even after a long break from one of the layouts you will be able to reactivate that knowledge. And if you genuinely want to make the switch, learning will not hold you back, because the advantages will convince you quickly.
If you pick up a ZSA keyboard, order the Satellite tool along with it. Highly recommend it. You always end up with spare switches at some point and having the tool around lets you experiment. I would also recommend the pair of tilt feet, as they improve ergonomics considerably. There are other add-ons available now but I cannot speak to those.
I also modded my Moonlander following this video: making my split keyboard sound chefs kisses. It is very easy to follow and there is no need to worry about breaking anything. All it takes is time and a bit of patience.
